“CATCH UP” SUNDAY!

November 4

We give thanks for all the tithes and offerings that are brought to carry on the Lord’s work through His church.  At the moment, we are $17,849.20 behind in our contributions toward this year’s budget.  The deacons have asked that each person consider giving a special offering on November 4 to help our church fulfill the opportunities God has given us to minister together.

A DAY TO FOCUS ON PRAYER

This Sunday, October 14

Each part of our worship service this Sunday morning will emphasize a different aspect of the Lord’s Prayer.  Be present as we “pray through” this prayer in worship together.  In the evening, we will look together at common misconceptions about prayer so that our prayer life can be strengthened.  Don’t let anything keep you from the Lord’s house this Sunday.

REVISED CONSTITUTION & BY-LAWS

For several months the Polity Committee has been meeting to revise our Constitution & By-Laws.  They have gone through these documents line by line to update, clarify, change to fit actual practice, and change to encourage optimal practice.  They propose that several committees be combined.  This will change the number of standing committees from 29 to 23. Copies of the proposed Constitution & By-Laws and of our current Constitution and By-Laws are available in the church office.  At the November 4 Church Conference the proposed changes will be presented to the church for discussion and on Sunday November 11 the church will have the opportunity to vote.  The Polity Committee is composed of Jim Davidson, chairman, Ann Henson, Jeff Hix, Bob Howard, Zane Orias, Frances Pearson and Wayne Waddell.

READ THE BIBLE THROUGH IN 2008

The Bible has become the most purchased yet least read book of all time.  Will you commit to reading the Bible through in 2008?  We will print the scripture for each day in The Encourager and in the Sunday bulletin so that we can do this together and encourage each other.  The folks who produce our Sunday School material are offering a monthly devotional guide called Life Walk that will provide overviews, insights, applications and other features for each day’s reading.  The cost is $25.00 for a year (12 issues).  The guides will be delivered to your home each month.  If you would like to subscribe, sign up now through the church office so that the first issue can arrive before January 1.  Help is available for those who would like to use this guide but can not afford it.

HEALING HEART SUPPORT GROUP

3rd Thursday of each month * Church Library * 7:00 pm.

The group is open to all who have suffered a loss.

THANK YOU!

Dear Andrew and Church Family,  My family & I want to thank you for being at the hospital during my surgery & for the care you have shown to us during this most unexpected event.  I have become stronger because of the prayers, cards calls & concerns of many & am blessed to have the loving concern of so many.  This journey will be a long one, but I know we will make it in great spirit.  It took me a long time to come to terms that now I am a cancer survivor – every day I live is another opportunity to fight adversity & learn & grow.  Through the help of friends & church family, we learn to discover our strengths & courage, our love of self & others, & the gifts of giving to meet the challenge to live life to its end & to support others in their journey to meet their needs as well.  To God be the Glory, & in gratitude to all, we give thanks.

Love, Sandy & Joe Clark

Dear Church Family, Thank you so much for the many ways you have shown your love to me through my recent illness.  Special thanks to my Church Deacon & to Andrew for being there the day of my surgery.  Continue to pray for Ken & me as I complete my chemotherapy.  Love, Genny Morrison

Dear Friends at First Baptist, Thank you for your prayers.  I knew someone was praying for me.  I have felt strength to go through whatever lies ahead for me.  I have felt a peace and calmness that only comes through Christ.  I am thankful for you & how Christ is working in my life.  Love Jane Jordan

Dear Family of Faith,  Words are truly inadequate to express to you how thankful I am for your words of affirmation, gifts, shared remembrances & acts of service on Pastor Appreciation Sunday.  All of us need encouragement & to be reminded that we are supported, loved & cared for.  Special thanks to everyone who was involved in planning, cooking, & serving the luncheon.  Please continue to pray for me as I seek the Lord’s will each day to know how to lead this great congregation in worship & in using the gifts God has blessed us with.  May we continue to serve together as we seek to bring Him honor & glory.  Thank you for the privilege you have given me to serve as your pastor.

In Christ’s love, Andrew Shull
