FROM THE HEART

As we worship together Sunday may we draw comfort from the strength and help the Lord can provide.  We will remember those in our fellowship who have gone to be with the Lord since our last Memorial Service.  We extend our love and prayers to the families of these loved ones listed below as well as to each family in our congregation that has experienced grief and loss.  Let us support one another as we claim the hope that comes from being surrounded by God’s presence and from the promises in His word.

John Jordan Stinson

Vera Whisenant Chapman

Sarah Trammel Willard

James Paul Cox

James Charles ‘Jake’ Hames

Grace Martin Lanford

Olive Reynolds Stribling

John Williams Drummond

Clarence Willard ‘Bud’ Kiser

Margaret Henson Godfrey Compton

William Talmadge ‘Steve’ Stephens

We give thanks to God for the lasting influence of these dear ones and for the comfort He has given through the provision of His Son, Jesus Christ.  We look forward to that day when by God’s grace we will all be united around His throne celebrating His glory, love and praise.

THE TRIVIA QUESTION

This week’s question:  We currently meet at our 7th House of Worship.  Which “House of Worship” was the first to have an indoor baptistry with dressing rooms?

Last week’s question:  God has called many people from the membership of our church to serve as pastors, missionaries and in other avenues of ministry.  Who was the first person from our church to serve overseas as a missionary?  Dr. John Todd Anderson was noted for his genuine humility, unselfish spirit, devotion to his Lord, faithfulness to his church, and his cheery disposition.  During his student days, he helped establish Sunday Schools at churches in our area.  He and his wife served as medical missionaries in Yang Chow, China.  On the night of November 12, 1918, Dr. Anderson was standing on a small boat holding a lantern to enable a rescue party to answer a call of distress.  Suddenly, a large ship struck the boat and Dr. Anderson was tragically drowned in the Yangtze River.
