THE TRIVIA QUESTION

This week’s question:  What year did our church host the South Carolina Baptist Convention’s annual meeting?

Last week’s question:  What former pastor’s name was chosen by the Southern Baptist Convention in 1933 to become part of the name of the Baptist Publishing Company?  Dr. John A. Broadus served as our pastor from 1866-1868.  During those two years, 42 people came to know Christ as their Savior.  Dr. Broadus resigned as our pastor when the seminary at Furman University was moved to Louisville, Kentucky.  In 1870, He published a Treatise on the Preparation and Delivery of Sermons that became the standard textbook for sermon preparation.  He became the 2nd President of the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in 1889.  When the Southern Baptist Convention established their publishing company they combined the last name of Dr. John A. Broadus with the last name of Dr. Basil Manly to adopt the name Broadman Press.

DR. LONNIE SHULL

Guest Preacher * Next Sunday, January 14

We are delighted to have our pastor’s father as our pulpit guest.  Dr. Shull was awarded the Order of the Palmetto, South Carolina’s highest honor, after serving 50 continuous years as a pastor.  He is a former SC Baptist Convention President & International Mission Board Trustee.  He & his wife, Hazel, have 3 sons & 3 grandchildren.  In addition to preaching Sunday morning, he will be leading our January Bible Study on Sunday evening.  We look forward to the blessings we will receive as Dr. Shull shares from God’s word.

THANK YOU!

Dear Andrew, Staff and Congregation of First Baptist,  Thank you so much for allowing us to use your lovely sanctuary for our Christmas Band Concert.  You were so gracious to allow us to rehearse for our concert also.  The setting and decorations provided an excellent atmosphere for the program.  Numerous concert attendees have expressed their gratitude for the use of your facility.  I hope that we can make this an annual event!  Sincerely,

Barry Wash, Band Director WMS & WHS

Dear Deacons and Church,  Thank you so much for my Christmas gift.  You all have been so kind to my mother and me during this past very difficult year.  That kindness is surely the greatest gift of the season, but the check is very much appreciated.  Blessings to all of you, Thomasene Owensby

Dear Church Family, Thank you for all the kindnesses you showed me during my recent hospital stay.  I so appreciated my visit from Andrew, as well as the many cards, flowers, and other expressions I received.  I am grateful for your care and concern during this time.  With Love,  Sara Ouzts
