THE TRIVIA QUESTION

This week’s question:  In the front foyer of our church is a painting by Robert Wilson of our Lord Jesus Christ entitled, “Come Unto Me.”  How old is the painting?

Last week’s question:  Who was A. B. Woodruff?

Captain Andrew Barry Woodruff, 1825-1905, served for many decades as Church Clerk, Treasurer, Deacon, Sunday School Superintendent, and Music Director.  He wrote a history of our church for its 100th Anniversary in 1887.  His father was Thomas Woodruff, for whom the City of Woodruff is named.  He was a Captain in the Holcombe Legion participating in 12 “engagements” in the Civil War before being captured and imprisoned at Johnson’s Island, Lake Erie.  After the war he served multiple terms in the SC State Legislature.  The inscription on his tombstone in our church cemetery reads, “Soldier, Legislator, and Christian – He devoted his life to his friends, his country and his God.”
