Grow and Belong”

“I am a little sheep who needs a Place to Belong.  Come to Sunday School on May 6 and I will be waiting for you to take me into the fold.  I don’t want to feel lost with no place to grow, so come and help me and my friends find our place.  There are 225 of us waiting for YOU.”

This Sunday you will receive a little lamb when you enter the church for Sunday School.

During the Worship Service, please place your lamb in the “fold.”  (A display on the organ side of the sanctuary.)

After the service you may take your lamb home with you.

Celebrating 225 Years of Ministry

HALLOWED GROUND SERVICE

Sunday, May 20  *  6:00 pm  *  Bethel Cemetery

We will gather for this special service of worship at our church cemetery.  The Bethel Cemetery is where all of our church buildings were located from 1787 until 1911 (When a sanctuary was built a few feet away on Main Street.)  Join us for this meaningful time of remembrance and thanksgiving.

 

 

Celebrating 225 Years of Ministry

REV. BOB DEATON, PULPIT GUEST

Rev. Bob Deaton, who served as our pastor from 1980 to 1987, will be our pulpit guest Sunday morning, May 27.  Rev. Deaton serves as a Field Development Coordinator for the SC Baptist Foundation.  Before retirement, he was the Director of the Annuity and Insurance Services Department of the SC Baptist Convention.  He is a graduate of Furman University and Southeastern Seminary.  He and Phyllis have two children.  Lea Ann Skinner is a teacher at Woodruff High School, wife of David Skinner and mother of Dawson Skinner.  Todd Deaton is the editor of the Kentucky Baptist paper The Western Recorder.  He and his wife, Michele have two children, Laura and Caleb.

 

 

 

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL

We are getting ready for an incredible week!  Contact the church office if you would like to help in this year’s VBS.  There is a special registration table in the back foyer for parents to pre-register their children.

 

 

BLESSING BAGS

The GA’s are collecting items for “Blessing Bags.”  Items needed are:  gallon zipper bags, granola bars, hand sanitizer, travel size shampoo, wet wipes, socks, and small non-perishable food items.  Boxes for donations have been placed in Sunday School classrooms and in the foyers.  Thank you for your support.

The Woodruff Relay for Life is June 1.  Luminary Bags placed In Honor or In Memory will line the walking path and each name will be called during the Memorial Service.   Luminary bags may be purchased in the church office.  If you are interested in being part of a team from our church, please contact Mike Elliott.

CHURCH CONFERENCE REPORT

The church approved a recommendation from the Property Committee and Deacons that we paint and replace the floor, ceiling, and lighting in the Fellowship Hall.  Work is scheduled to begin this Monday, May 7.

The church also voted to observe “Casual Summer” from Memorial Day to Labor Day.

 

 

CLOTHES CLOSET

May is our church’s month to staff the Woodruff Community Clothes Closet on Saturdays from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm.  We need volunteers for May 5, 12 & 19.  If you or your class or group would like to help, please contact the church office.

FELLOWSHIP SUPPER

This will be the last Wednesday Night Fellowship Supper for this School Year.  Because of the construction in the Fellowship Hall we will not have Wednesday Night Supper on May 9 or 16.  Activities for preschoolers, children and youth will begin at 5:40 pm.
