This Wednesday, August 10  *  6:30 pm

We are benefiting from a Bible study developed by Rick Warren entitled, God’s Answers to Life’s Difficult Questions.  This week’s question is… “How Can I Ever Change?”  We will not meet for Bible Study next Wednesday, August 17, due to the Family Fun Night and Blood Drive.

Join with us as we host our friends from the New Life Baptist Church for this Evening Worship Service.  Reverend Steve Ramey will be preaching.  Following the service we will all take part together in the Annual Peanut Boil and Roast.

Remember to pray for students, teachers, & staff as they begin a new school year.  Pray that the Lord will provide lots of opportunities for them to share their faith.  Pray for their safety as they learn & grow & seek to develop & use the gifts with which God has blessed them with.

Please be in prayer for Susan Culbreath, Bobby Scott, Skip Scott and Marcia Ward as they take part in the Worship Summit at White Oak Conference Center on August 12 – 13.

  • DEACON MINISTRY

    Having been nominated to serve, after much prayer and seeking the Lord’s leadership, the following feel that the time is right to submit their names for consideration as deacons for the 2011 – 2014 term.  During our morning worship service this Sunday, August 14, you will be asked to select four people to join those already serving in this needed ministry in our church. Absentee ballots are available for those who will be out of town or who are physically unable to attend.

    From the First Baptist Church By-Laws:

    The duties & qualifications of the deacons shall be those prescribed by the New Testament in Acts 6:1-8 & 1 Timothy 3:8-13.

    • They shall constitute an advisory council in all matters relating to the business affairs of this church and

    • Shall assist the pastor in the discharge of his pastoral duties.

    • They shall receive reports from the various officers and departments of the church, carefully considering such reports, making such recommendations and suggestions as they may deem judicious and for the best interest of the church.

    • They shall be specifically charged with the administering of the Lord's Supper,

    • With keeping the membership enlisted in the full program of the church, and

    • With promoting peace, harmony and the spirit of cooperation among the membership.

    • They shall furthermore serve as a committee of discipline, exercising a special watch-care over the members of the church, &

    • Under the leadership of the pastor, make special effort to maintain spiritual harmony and righteous living among the membership of this church.

BACK TO SCHOOL CARNIVAL

Join us for lots of family fun as we kick off our fall Wednesday night programs.  Mission Project for August:  Please bring a school supply with you to the Carnival.  We will donate the school supplies to District Four Schools.  Parents are needed and encouraged to be here to have fun with their children.  Our Wednesday Night Bible Study will not be held so that we can be together for this time of outreach and fellowship.

Promotion Sunday Assembly

Next Sunday, August 21  *  9:45 am to 10:00 am

On Promotion Sunday, August 21, all Sunday School Classes (preschool, children, youth and adults) are asked to meet in the sanctuary at 9:45 am for a time of inspiration and celebration as we take part in a Church - Wide Assembly.  This will be a time to express appreciation to our Sunday School Teachers for their efforts in the past year.  Students who will be promoting will be recognized and will go to their new class after the assembly.  Set an extra alarm so that you can be here to support and cheer as we give thanks for this past year and look ahead to what God has for us as we study His word together.

Three different sessions will be offered for those who teach Preschoolers, Children, Youth and Adults.  A detailed list of classes is available in the church office.

 

INSTRUMENTAL ENSEMBLE

Would you be interested in being part of an Instrumental Ensemble?  The first rehearsal will be Sunday, August  28 from 9:30 to 9:45 am in the church sanctuary.  Contact Bobby Blanton or the church office to sign up.

CHALLENGERS

The Challengers will meet this Wednesday, August 10, rain or shine, from 6:00 – 7:30 pm  at the home of Keith, Christine, Chelsea and Connor Reynolds, for food, fellowship, fun, swimming and a devotional lesson.  Bring a bathing suit & towel. 

 

CHESS CLUB

On August 18, Chess Club will begin meeting each Thursday.  Come and learn to play or enjoy some healthy competition.  Contact Phil Wood for more information.
