SOUP KITCHEN NEEDS

The number of people served by the Woodruff Area Soup Kitchen is growing each week.  Volunteers & monetary support are needed.  They especially need:  divided plates, plastic cutlery, carry out boxes, salt & pepper shakers & ketchup.  See Carolyn Culbreath or Liz Mason for more information.

COMMUNITY MINISTRIES

We are featuring information about a different community ministry in The Encourager each week.  (These will be compiled into a single brochure that can be given to those in need of assistance & to those who are able to volunteer their time & resources.)

MOBILE MEALS

PO Box 461

Spartanburg, SC 29304

Contact Person:  Paula Jakubchak  573-7684

Mobile Meals seeks to glorify God by providing nutritious meals, services, & fellowship to the frail &  homebound citizens in Spartanburg County.  They deliver love, compassion, & hope.  The ministry includes meal delivery, nursing services, case management, & a lay pastor.  It began in 1977 by serving 25 meals with 15 volunteers.  Today it serves nearly 2000 residents with approximately 150 volunteers.  About 92 people in the Woodruff area receive meals.  Right now there is an urgent need for drivers in our area.  Even if you can only help a few days in the summer or would be willing to be a substitute driver, your help is greatly needed & will be appreciated.  Those who volunteer intending to be a blessing find that they are the ones who are blessed.  Mobile Meals is also in need of financial support.  It cost about $84.00 to provide meals for one person for a month.  The meals are brought to Helping Hands & volunteer drivers carry them to the residents’ homes.  While the most pressing need is for drivers, volunteers are also needed to assemble the meals & help recipients with the “little extras," such as a ride to the grocery store or pharmacy, changing a light bulb, or installing a smoke detector.  If you would like information about receiving meals or would like to learn more about volunteer opportunities, call the Mobile Meals office, 573-7684, or visit their web site:  www.mobile-meals.org.  Paul writes, Each of you should look not only to your own interests, but also to the interests of others. Philippians 2:4  Pray that God would be glorified as meals are delivered to those He loves so much.  Pray that during these hard economic times that gifts of time & money would continue to be multiplied to meet the need.
